Another consideration when selecting voice assistant is your choice of video streaming device. The increased price of the Apple speakers may not be a huge deal if purchasing just one or two speakers. But the best Google Home compatible devices don't necessarily top the best Alexa compatible devices nor the best HomeKit devices.
Google Home is just a variant to use the Assistant and to get a complete experience you use all the devices on which Assistant is configured for a wholesome experience. But nowhere I saw being mentioned about using Assistant on phone to search for maps or songs which might have also given better results for directions say. In our final counts, Google Assistant and Alexa tied for the most total points, but Google narrowly edged out Alexa in the number of first-place finishes. Siri, meanwhile, landed in third place in both measurements, though it was only slightly behind on total points. Modern smart home devices tend to work with both of the major platforms, however. We kind of fell down that path years ago when we purchased our first Google Home smart speaker.
If you’re sticking to limited fare, you probably won’t be able to tell the difference in effectiveness because both handle the basics perfectly well. But for more complicated commands or queries, the Google Assistant gives Google Nest speakers the edge in this matchup. One simple test we tried was to use speakers from each company playing music in the bathroom while taking a shower, with each speaker set to full volume and placed in the same spot. (What can we say, who doesn’t love music while in the shower?) For this test, we used the lowest-end speakers, the Echo Dot and the Google Home Mini. While the music from the Echo Dot was blurred and somewhat drowned out by the running water, the Google Nest Mini came through loud and clear — it was so clear and loud that we didn’t even need maximum volume. Apple HomeKit is both the easiest and hardest in terms of adding devices.

This makes it difficult and fairly expensive to switch to a different voice assistant. We use Spotify to manage our music and playlists, and it works well with the Google Assistant and our Google smart speakers. The bottom line is that all three voice assistants have more information and capabilities than anyone could possibly utilize. And with each passing day, the answers to random questions we may ask the assistant become more accurate and complete. Again, your location may determine what other music services you'll be able to access on your Google Home.
